Every Trade,
Under One Roof

Most steel building projects involve four or five different companies — and four or five chances for something to fall through the cracks. We self-perform the critical trades, which means tighter schedules, accountable quality, and one phone number for your entire project.

How a Steel Building
Actually Gets Built

Most people have never been through a construction project. Here’s exactly what happens, step by step — no jargon, no assumptions. Click any step to learn more.

01
Figure Out What You Need
Discovery & Planning
Before anything else, we talk through what you actually need the building for — storage, a shop, livestock, commercial use. This shapes everything: size, height, door locations, insulation, foundation type.
🐾 Steel Dog PromiseWe never rush this step. A 20-minute conversation upfront saves thousands in changes later. All consultations are free.
02
Site & Permits
Zoning, Codes & Approvals
Your county has rules about what can be built and where — setbacks, snow load requirements, zoning. We help you understand what permits are needed and what your site requires before we quote a single dollar.
🐾 Steel Dog PromiseColorado’s 64 counties all have different rules. We know them. We’ll tell you exactly what you’re facing in plain language before you’re committed to anything.
03
Site Work, Foundation & Utilities
Building from the Ground Up
We grade and prep the site, trench utilities, install the septic system if you need one, and pour an engineered foundation designed for Colorado’s frost depth and soils. A building is only as good as what it sits on.
🐾 Steel Dog PromiseOur dirt, concrete, and erection crews are the same company. No handoff problems, no finger-pointing if something’s off.
04
Steel Delivery & Erection
The Build Begins
Your building arrives in pieces on a flatbed — columns, rafters, panels, trim, hardware. Our crew assembles it systematically: anchor bolts, primary framing, secondary framing, then panels and trim. Most buildings go up in a matter of days.
🐾 Steel Dog PromiseWe keep a clean, organized job site. You’ll always know what day we’re starting and what each phase will look like.
05
Finishes & Inspections
Getting to Move-In Ready
Doors, windows, insulation, interior liner panels, mezzanines, and stairs — the finishing work is where your building becomes functional. If permits were pulled, inspections happen here to sign off on the work.
🐾 Steel Dog PromiseWe don’t disappear after the frame goes up. We’re with you through punch-list and final inspection.
06
After the Build
Warranties & Ongoing Support
Steel buildings are low maintenance — but not no maintenance. Seals, fasteners, and trim should be inspected periodically, especially after Colorado winters. We’re here for repairs, panel replacements, and additions down the road.
🐾 Steel Dog PromiseWe build for lasting relationships, not one-time transactions. Past clients call us years later — and we answer.

Do I need a permit for a steel building in Colorado?
+
It depends on your county and the building’s size and use. Most counties require a building permit for any structure over a certain square footage (often 120–200 sq ft), and all counties have wind and snow load requirements your building must meet. We help you figure out exactly what’s required for your specific parcel before you commit to anything.
How long does a steel building take to build?
+
The actual erection of most buildings takes 3–10 days depending on size. The longer part is lead time: steel buildings are manufactured to order, which takes 8–14 weeks from order to delivery. Add permitting time (which varies by county) and you’re usually looking at 4–6 months from contract to move-in. We’ll give you a realistic timeline at the start, not an optimistic one.
What’s the difference between I-beam and cold-form buildings?
+
I-beam (rigid frame) buildings use heavy structural steel and are best for larger spans, taller heights, and commercial or industrial use. Cold-form buildings use lighter gauge steel and are more economical for smaller residential or agricultural structures. We’ll recommend the right type based on your actual use case — not just what’s easier for us to sell.
What does “turnkey” actually mean?
+
It means we take responsibility for the whole project — site work, foundation, septic if needed, the building itself, and the finishes — and hand you the keys at the end. You sign one contract with one licensed general contractor instead of hiring and coordinating four or five separate companies yourself.
Do I need to have my land cleared and leveled first?
+
No — that’s one of our in-house services. We handle grading, excavation, drainage, and access. Don’t worry if your land is rough; just let us see it and we’ll tell you what the path looks like and what it will cost.
How does payment work? Do I pay everything upfront?
+
No. Typical payment structures include a deposit to order the building, a draw when the building ships, and a final payment at or after completion. We’re transparent about payment terms upfront and won’t ask you to front everything before work begins. All terms are in writing before any money changes hands.
Can you handle everything, or do I need other contractors?
+
We self-perform site work, septic, concrete, steel procurement, erection, and finishing — which is nearly the entire project. Electrical and plumbing inside the building require licensed trade contractors; we coordinate those under our GC license or refer you to people we trust. We’re clear from the start about exactly what’s in scope.
Do you work for general contractors and commercial clients?
+
Yes. We perform steel erection, mezzanines, decking, stairs, and concrete packages as a subcontractor for national and regional general contractors — including active work under AECOM. We carry commercial insurance and meet national GC safety and documentation requirements.
